I'm Melllllting

Soooo, all my fabulous plans were completely pooped on yesterday. Saturday wasn't too bad, and yes, naps were had. Hurray!

But the downside, is Sam, our littliest man decided it was high time to have yet another ear infection. So Saturday was mostly spent caring for him. Sunday I took him to an urgent care pediatrician and waited, and waited. Awesome.

Then our AC that we've been fighting off and on with, decided it was also high time for to give up. Yesterday's high here in San Antonio was 11o. Yes, that's right. You read that...110. It was in the nineties in our little apartment. We high tailed it out of there, but before leaving we had to pack up everything for the boys first day of school today. So, all my dreams and plans of getting the boys off right, with all their precious goodies, and pictures did not all come to fruition.

Thank goodness for Nana and Papa John in town (John's mom and sweet husband), for we bardged in. The thoughts I came away with was this.....as a unit we can do anything and pack up pretty fast. But while packing little boy things up I was also struck with the thought of how many people have had to pack up fast in much more dire situations, like war or weather. How stressful. I thanked God we had a place to go and that our home would be there when we returned.

I also realized that we don't need much. Have no expectations. Family is everything. When we are hot we get grumpy. Those are much less profound I know, but still learning experiences!

Hope your Monday is filled with sweet air conditioned air, yummy foods, and hugs from little dudes. Love, A

Why Hello Mr. Weekend...

My first week back to school with students is down, and the weekend is here! Hurray! What in the world do I want to do with myself? My sweet madre leaves tomorrow morning, and many a tear will be shed with her departure (between Ben and I both). Then the sky is the limit! My only goal is to take a nap. That's really it for me....it's the simple pleasures! What are your plans? Anything fabulous?

Hope whatever it is, you drink God's amazing glory in! Much love and hugs, A

Gigi to the rescue

My son Ben just got back from "vacation" with my parents, Gigi and Poppy. Let me just tell you that he was over the moon with excitement to have time with them without Sam, John, or I. They swam, made awesome crafts, watched movies, fished, feed ducks, played with sparklers, and so much other merriment. The best thing though, in the whole wide world, is that my mom got Ben to try new foods!

Ben is not one to like anything other than chicken nuggets, pizza, ravioli, mac n cheese, and other kid fare. He used to only eat bananas and corn. That's was it. I was often up making dinner for Sam, a different meal for Ben, and yet another for John and I. Thus, I NEVER got to sit down to eat. I felt like the Christmas Story mom, "She hasn't had a hot meal in ten years..."

So, my mom is absolutely my all time hero for fighting this battle for me. I was just done with trying. I had given up. She did it though....he now tries everything! Watermelon, grapes, raisins, strawberries, hamburger helper, hot dogs, meat balls, everything! It's amazing. I'm so very thrilled and thankful for Gigi (aka Gee). It was by far the best. gift. ever. I get to sit down with my men, and pray, eat, and discuss our day. Wow, what a difference.

Thank you Gigi for loving my boys. Thank you for all the wiping of boogers, bottoms, and various other areas that only a mom will do. Thank you for all the laundry, toy pick ups, cities built, meals prepared, snuggles given, games played, and teeth brushing. Thank you for teaching me how to be a better mom. Thank you for showing me unconditional love always and forever. Thank you for being my very best friend and loving me through it all. Hugs and kisses, A

Biking It

I love my old blue schwin bike, and have been thinking of it often and missing it. It was my uncles, then my dad's, and now mine. Did I say that it was old? There is a basket up front, a bell and it is the perfect shade of sky blue.

I tried to ride the other day to the ice cream shop, with both kiddos in the trailer in the back, and needless to say we didn't make it far without Sam getting uber cranky with me. Maybe it was the heat? Or just my bad driving! I'm thrilled to be living in Alamo Heights and to be able to bike almost anywhere, just as soon as it drops below 102!

If I could get any bike in the whole wide world it would probably be one of the ones below.... http://www.madsencycles.com/

A girl can dream....it's $1500

Kate Spade's awesome bike! Don't even know how much....

A family that bikes together, stays together! Gotta love some Tori, she will tell it like it is.

These ladies look so fabulously chic to me riding their sweet bikes. I don't look nearly that fabulous! I'm usually VERY sweaty and not in a skirt!Happy Wednesday to you all, I'm looking forward to taking my sweet mother on a hot date tonight to Max's wine dive for their famous fried chicken and wine. Updates on Projects

As promised awhile back, here are pics and descriptions of various projects from printables and such at my current home/apartment. Please know that it is usaully much cuter due to wall paint color, but being in an apartment, you can't paint...boo.
This is this AMAZING piece I scored free from my sweet friend Kate who had no room for it. It holds our entire childrens book library inside. I love it, much to my husbands dismay, for he has to rehang it at every location and I don't think it's very easy. But to try out our family rules I put them on the blackboard part. I want to be able to edit them for awhile before I actually make a permanent one.

I made the mobile out of these cool butterflies I scored from my mom, they were just on wire and I strung them together and attached them all to a embroidery ring. Then hung it from the ceiling with fishing line. Sam ADORES these and is absolutely mesmorized by them. They gently move with the ceiling fan, so it's super great for him.

All the art was made either by printables or cool scrapbook paper from Target. All the frames are from IKEA, and the big "S" is from TJ Max and I just painted it for the pop of color.

These are two prints I made one day at school when I had extra time. One is done free hand with a sharpie on white poster board. No joke. Then I decided I wanted the exact opposite, which proved more challenging. I started with a white paint pen, and found that I didn't get the solid white look I was looking for. Thus, I cut each little white birdie out one night while playing scrabble with Mr. Niedecken. He takes forever in each turn, so I had lots of time!

I used to have horns over my bed, and decided we needed a change. These are just pretty papersource papers framed. Less than $20 bucks, and hobby lobby frames at 50% off. Cheap! But, the best part is, you can change them anytime and not feel guilty about it!

Another freebie score! In our old house we had this small space that I wanted to create a little mud room effect. This pic is in our apartment, where I can't paint the walls, boo. But I still love it. I took the mirror out and put this sweet frame in, and in a home I actually paint behind the frame, just in that little space, a nice blue color. It makes me so very a happy. It is usually the hub.

This is this cool piece of art that I just adore. When I was pregnant with Sam (9months) I looked around in my hormonal state and realized that I hated our house. It didn't reflect me at all, which we all know, is really big for a woman, especially a heavily hormonal nesting one!

I told John, we either move or I'm changing things. Poor guy. When John and I married I tried so very hard to combine our tastes, his very country (think deer heads, horse paintings, lots of red), and mine was funky eclectic. So needless to say, FAILURE! Thus, the horse came down, and in it's place I made this out of slices of wood that I painted, then arranged, glued and added some more paint. It's all adhered to a canvas. Love it.

This is what I did with some printables! I adore them, and once again, the frames are from Hobby Lobby 50% off sales. Gotta love it!

First Days

It's my first day back at school today...and I'm missing my little men! I adore both these pics for the sweetness of motherhood. For those of you who don't know me, I'm actually a school teacher by trade and work with mostly at-risk seniors (either out of jail, pregnant, troubled, homeless, you name it) and run a teen-mom group.

But, God has been so amazing to me this year for I have P E A C E. For the last five years of motherhood, when school starts back up I go through this horrible, dark, questioning phase of, "Do I really need to work?" "Am I really doing God's calling?" What if this, and what if that. Satan just digs in and starts to work on me in a very serious way.

This year, God gave me the best gift. The answer of YES! I am doing God's calling in teaching my kiddos and yes, I am an even better mama for doing this. Thank you sweet Jesus for my babies, my students, and your answers! What a blessing....enjoy your Monday! A

Inked Up

I know alot of you will disagree with me on this one, but yes, I want a tattoo. I want it to be something meaningful for me though. And that won't turn people off. I don't need to give people any other reason to judge me!

My favorite place would be under my watch band on my right wrist. I think I might want something like the script "Love always" just to remind me what my life's mission is.

Or maybe my boys names or something cool like that? I met someone amazing recently who had the word "humble" on his wrist. I loved it.

Who knows....but I do know this....my mom and Mr. Niedecken wouldn't be very happy with me. Hence, I've done nothing to progress this dream...

Rings of Glory

Well...I fibbed. I said the next post would be of my house and various projects, but it's not. Boo on me. Those pics are on another computer, so you'll have to make due with these pretty fabulous fun rings.

I have a confession to make....I love funky, fun rings, especially the really ginormous ones....you know the ones that if you hit someone would leave a mark?

But as far as my own hand, I stack my engagement ring, my first mother's day ring, and another one all together on one finger and they totally don't go, but they do at the same time. You know? The other hand is free to be fun. I either wear huge, and I mean huge rings, or my simple hammered "Be the Change" one.

One of my favorite places to find funky rings is a little ship in Nordstroms called "BP", it's kind of like Forever 21, but WAY cooler. You can find some pretty gnarly stuff for less than $20 bucks.

Hope your Monday is full of joy and living in the light, A

This is my own set of rings...

DIY Glory

For those of you following me on pinterest...please disregard this! For as you know, lots of my ideas and inspiration come from there. My next post will be about some of the goodies I make at my house and the use of printables. So stay tuned! Love, love, love this.....The starburst mirror is so in right now, and this would be perfect in my laundry room!
I love mud rooms and never seem to live in a space where there is one, so I love that they created one from scratch. I love the stenciled/wallpapered wall, hooks and sweetness that this space is.

Spray paint can be your friend! Take anything in your house that you don't currently like and give it a little spruce up! Just be ready to have funny colored hands, because it is not water based....learned this the hard way!

Adore this...for anywhere. On my to do list.

Also on my to do list. Made out of old magazines and papers. Adore cheap, free, art!

Great for pics, jewelry, kids art, etc.

Yes, yes, yes! I want this and I want my pantry to look like this (in my dreams). But how easy would it be to slap some blackboard paint and hot glue fabric covered cork board on the bottom?

Enjoy your day....I have a week and a half before I go back to work....boo. But, you should be excited, because then I post WAY more often! Love and hugs, A
